Whilst listening to different Radio News Broadcasts for ideas for my broadcast I began to notice that every station I had listened to contained adverts during brakes in the broadcasting. I knew this already as I had done my research already and knew that apart from the BBC. All other mainstream and some pirate stations used advertising as funding. I focused on listening to the adverts and found the following:
The majority of the mainstream stations such as Heart 106.2 and Capital Fm had similar well known adverts such as adverts for household products and confectionery as well as a number of insurance companies e.g Shiela's Wheels Insurance and Cillit bang. This is because these stations have a large audience and companies want their products advertised on these stations due to high audiences.
The smaller stations such as Blaze Fm had adverts that promoted local club events and local musical artists e.g Speakeasy Charity Party. Smaller stations don't have power like the bigger stations do they have a small budget but being local it helps the locals find out whats happened/ing near them.
In each break between Broadcasting, on average 4 or 5 adverts are played. This number is dependant on the station however as I found some stations played less adverts than others, but these adverts were usually longer then usual and so the ad breaks for the stations generally equalled out at the same length of about 3 minutes.
